Our client is a dynamic local investment company formed in 1992 with a view to not only consolidate its various investments but also harness investment opportunities both at Local, Regional and international levels.

Over the years, the Group has built an impressive investment portfolio in all major sectors of the economy within Kenya and the East African Region. These investments are spread across the agriculture, logistics, security, hospitality, and mining sectors.


About the role

As our client grows rapidly and moves into new sectors, they are looking for a Human Resource Manager to support their growing portfolio of businesses. The HR Manager will oversee all human resource functions across the group subsidiaries. This will include developing & implementing a group HR strategy, streamlining HR processes and procedures as well as managing the respective subsidiary HR Officers.


The ideal candidate will come from a multinational background with key expertise around managing a large, primarily unionized, workforce. Additionally, they should have experience building and implementing systems and processes aimed at creating an efficient and centralized HR function across multiple businesses.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Talent Strategy: Define, own and manage HR strategy including talent acquisition, management, and development. In liaison with the subsidiary HR officers support CEOs/HODs to conduct Manpower Planning for the companies.
  • Performance Management: Define and develop expectations for work performance including implementing regular performance reviews and reward systems.
  • Training and Development: Evaluate training needs in collaboration with the respective HR Offices, CEO & HOD’s, develop the training calendar, source for trainers and ensure training programs are deployed and effectiveness is measured across all subsidiaries. Ensure HR Officers organize and facilitate statutory training across their respective verticals.
  • Employee Relations and Compliance: Assess and in support of HR Officers develop policies in line with both the organizational and employment regulatory stakeholders. Review and implement organizational rules and regulations in consultation with the HR Officers and Unions. i.e. HR manual, CBA, Code of conduct, employment act, environmental policies, safety policies, etc. Support the HR Officers in CBA negotiations as well as wage and salary administration.
  • Manage Payroll: Support payroll activities including statutory and benefits such as company pension and health insurance schemes.


Does this sound like you?

  • 5+ years of progressive hands-on experience in an HR Business Partner role in managing a largely unionized workforce.
  • IHRM Certified
  • Excellent organizational and management skills with the ability to think analytically and the ability to multitask.
  • Good oral and written communication skills with experience using HR systems and software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work and manage a diverse workforce with people from all walks of life.
  • Good report writing and presentation skills on Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other platforms.


Nice to have:

  • Experience structuring compensation and benefits packages is an added advantage.
